10 Minutes That Can Change Your Life
by JohnMc
What if your doctor wrote you a prescription that would not only cure your bad habits, but would also get you on the fast track to lasting weight loss? And what if this prescription cost you a mere 10 minutes of your time?
You'd jump at it and be the happiest woman or man on the face of the earth.
Well, start jumping. Renowned obesity expert Dr. Robert Kushner -- the Medical Director for the Diet.com Premium Membership program -- has created the cure for your bad habits and troublesome extra weight.

This amazing program is called The Personality Type Diet. And yes, Dr. Kushner first wrote the book of the same name. He then teamed with Diet.com to help thousands of frustrated dieters see the light.
"There is no other plan like this plan," Dr. Kushner says. "Even though it's called a diet, it's not a diet in the traditional sense.
"Diets are things that people equate with starting and stopping. The Personality Type Diet is a life-changing program based on the user's eating, exercising and coping personalities."

OK, so it takes longer than 10 minutes to read a book. However, it only takes 10 minutes -- or less -- to answer the 70 insightful questions that make up your True Personality Diet Quiz... the foundation for your Diet.com Premium Membership.
So what are you waiting for? Click here now and start answering honestly and without too much thought.
We guarantee you will be amazed at how well we got you pegged. Knowing your habits is only the first step. The Diet.com Premium Membership will then hold your hand and guide you through the steps needed to change your habits and change your body.
"This quiz and program is geared to how you live your life and your attitudes and behaviors as they relate to what you eat, your physical activity and how you cope with stress," Dr. Kushner says.
It may sound cliche, but Kushner -- Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and President-Elect of The Obesity Society -- knows what he's talking about.
His work with countless clients led him to the creation of The Personality Type Diet... a book that will soon be required reading for weight counselors coast to coast!
"The Personality Type Diet is much more encompassing than any 'diet" -- it tackles your lifestyle and the issues you face," he says.
"It turns out that for most people, body weight is related to many factors in your life… not just what you put on your plate. Equally important is how you move around and how you deal with stress and obstacles that life throws you.
"Managing all aspects of your life determines if you will not only lose weight but also keep the weight off."
During his research, Dr. Kushner discovered that most of us think of the word "diet" as a verb. “I am dieting” tends to mean they changed their habits for the short-term.
"It's temporary... like if they have a cold and start treating it," he says.
"They take a remedy, fix it and move on.
"However, most of our weight gain is long term and chronic, so diet is too short term in focus and one dimensional to work.
"As soon as people get distracted they quickly fall back into their old habits and regain the weight."
The Diet.com Premium Membership is tailored to your unique needs.
More than 500,000 people have already taken the diet quiz. From those findings, Dr. Kushner has created 7 categories for each area of our life -- dieting, exercise and coping.
"The one-size fits all approach dooms most diets," he says. "We all have our own lifestyle, time constraints and goals.
"It's more practical to develop a plan that suits the individual."
Over the years, the quiz has been tweaked. It's more intuitive to your "usual" behavior. Dr. Kushner advises you don't dwell on your answers or answer YES if the question affected you once or twice. Pinpointing patterns is what makes it work so well.
Already taken the quiz? Good... but don't rest on those findings. If you've been following the plan, odds are your habits have changed. So, every 6 months or so, it's wise to retake the quiz.
"There's a very strong correlation to your improvement in patterns and improvement in health and weight loss," he says.
"The Personality Type Diet puts you in the driver's seat. I often hear the comment, "For the first time I don’t feel like I am on a diet!” I also hear, "I feel like changing the way I live my life – you’ve given me the road map on how to do it!"

Fall Weight Loss: Obstacles & Opportunities
by JohnMc
In years past, I'd hit September and tell myself I now have three free months to eat whatever I want because my next great diet would be starting New Year's Day.
Talk about warped thinking!
Don’t fall for the pitch that January 1 is the best time to start a diet. The best time to slim down and shape up starts now.
Shorter days, colder temps and school events pose obstacles but we’ll help you overcome them and embrace the opportunities to slim down before New Year's!

There are obstacles and opportunities for every weight loss endeavor. But for ever obstacle, there is a way to overcome. And for ever opportunity, there is a way to succeed at weight loss.
Many times what we consider obstacles are merely excuses. Sorry if that hurts, but we are our own worst enemy when it comes to slimming.
For a list of the 5 Most Common Excuses or Mistakes Dieters Make -- and the 5 ways to overcome them -- click here now.
So what about those obstacles to a fall diet? Let's tackle them one at a time:
1. Shorter days.
This one is more a mind game we play. There are still 24 hours in a day. The only difference here is that fall days tend to have more darkness than light. I don't know about you, but when it starts getting dark at 5 p.m., I can feel my energy sink with the sun!
Solution: A well-lit home area where you can work out indoors. Whether it's a fitness tape you're following or a 30-minute small-weights workout, finds a spot in your bedroom, basement or garage, turn up the light and start burning calories. If you can afford it, join a gym -- how can you NOT be pumped up to work out when there are so many people doing so around you?
2. Colder temps.
Yes, the fall signals the start of cooler temperatures. But that doesn't mean you need to put your diet and fitness on ice until New Year's!
Solution: While it may not be easy to drag yourself out of a warm bed and head out for a morning jog, what' stopping you from heading to your indoor spot (see above) and working up a little sweat? Nothing! In fact, cooler weather should entice you to warm up to aerobics or the treadmill.
3. School events.
I have two children so I know how the school year can cramp your dieting style. There's homework to help with, PTA and Scout meetings to attend, school birthday parties to attend... and many of these events come with not-s-diet-friendly food and snacks!
Solution: This one isn't as tough as it sounds. Try eating a healthy meal before school functions -- and cart along your own snacks and ever-present water bottle -- and rise an hour earlier to fit in your workout! I know... it isn't easy to get up so early on school days or any days... but your health and weight are worth the lost sleep. Besides, the kids are going to bed earlier, right? So should you!
OK, so now that we touched on the big 3 obstacles to a fall diet, let's turn to the opportunities afforded by a year-end slimdown.
1. Start the New Year lighter, healthier!
The experts say we tend to gain a few pounds from October to January. Why? The holidays are a major reason. From now until January 2, we must contend with Halloween candy, Thanksgiving feasts, Christmas and Hanukkah treats, and New Year's Eve food and drinks.
By starting a fall diet, you'll be in the right frame of mind to sidestep the diet bombs and to hit 2009 at a lighter, healthier weight than you weigh right now.
Wow, isn't that incentive enough to start a fall diet?
A few years ago, I started a diet in October. By January I was 30 pounds lighter!
I thought it was crazy to start a diet in the fall. But now I know the best time to start a day is NOW!
2. Take control over food!
We give food and treats way too much power. Why do we pig out time and time again on foods we know are not good for our health or weight? There are several reasons -- including tradition -- but usually it's because we are eating out of emotion or habit.
Emotions and habits are two diet-dooming behaviors you can slay this fall season. It isn't easy to simply tell yourself NO MORE PIGOUTS! No, you must come to terms with the habits and behaviors that got you to the weight you are now.
The easiest way to control your bad habits and questionable behaviors? Take the Diet.com Personality Quiz then start our proven diet plan to overcome the emotions and behaviors undermining your ability to lose weight... and keep it off.
3. Look good in that slinky black dress or suit this New Year's!
This may fall under the category of vanity, but for me at least to look good is to feel good... and to feel good is to prod you into keeping on track with your diet and fitness plan.
I recently dropped 32 pounds with the help of Diet.com. For the first time in the past two years, I do not avoid mirrors or only wear baggy clothing.
If looking good is important to you, then you should start a diet now and not January 1. Because by New Year's Day you will have cursed and groaned and maybe even cried over the extra weight you are sporting.
Three obstacles, three opportunities. There are many more of each, but I hope you agree -- now is the time to take action.
Between now and January, you will be bombarded with diet ads. But while those plans will help you lose weight, the Diet.com, program will help you control the behaviors causing your weight gain... so you don't regain the weight you will lose!
Click here and get started today. It's the best solution for ending your lifelong weight issues. |

Super 7 Tips For Fall Weight Loss!
by JohnMc
Fall is traditionally the time we put our weight loss efforts into hibernation and set our sights on New Year’s for our next diet to end all diets.

Not this year.
Dive into our super 7 tips for fall weight loss and you’ll not only avoid end-of-year weight gain but also start the new year in better shape.
Follow this advice and you've set yourself to have a fighting chance at weight loss.
You can make the process even easier by linking up with Diet.com, your source for all your dieting and nutrition solutions.
Super 7 Tips For Fall Weight Loss!
1. A workable plan.
Like any project in life, you need a workable game plan to lose weight and keep it off. But before you even draw up your plan, you need to be in the right frame of mind.
You are more likely to stumble and fall if your mind isn't totally wrapped around a healthy new lifestyle -- the kind of lifestyle needed to lose weight and improve your health.
So how do you change the eating, exercising and coping habits that caused you to gain the weight. We recommend you take the True Diet Personality Quiz -- an insightful 70-question personal survey that will pinpoint your bad behaviors. Click here to take it now.
2. Take a pledge.
This pledge can be something as simple as a written note, signed by you and stating "I WILL lose weight this fall and I WILL feel better by New Year. I am doing this because I want to ________ (fill in the blank with as many reasons as you can think of). And I WILL lose the weight in a safe manner. My starting weight is _______; by _________, I will drop _____ pounds. My goal weight is ________ and I WILL reach it by ___________."
Write up a pledge like this, keeping it positive and specific. There's nothing that spells dieting doom than an open-ended vow such as "I want to lose weight."
Post your Pledge on the fridge or bathroom mirror so you will see it several times a day. It helps reinforce what you are doing... and why!
3. House cleaning.
No, we're not talking about dusting and vacuuming. We're talking about going through your pantry, fridge and cupboards and tossing the packaged goods that do no good to your body or weight. Fresh fruits and veggies can stay; so too can the junk-free yogurts and cheeses. All high-sugar, high-sodium treats and snacks -- the kinds with hydrogenated oils -- must go!
4. The write stuff.
Start a food journal and keep track of every bite you eat. Thinking you are too old or too busy to keep a diary? Think again. A recent study showed that dieters who kept track of their food lost twice the weight as those who didn't. Write on, slimmer!
5. Seek out support.
When it comes to effective weight loss, you shouldn't go it alone. Friends and family members are good first choices for support. So too are co-workers and members of the church or civic organizations you might belong to. We can't say enough about online support... support like that found right here at Diet.com.
Access to experts is a major boost for any diet. Diet.com Premium Members should post 3 days of their food intake on the Rate My Plate board where registered dietitian Shauna Schultz can review it and give you feedback on improvement.
Also, Premium Members should be posting how they are doing including any questions they're having in the 2 other premium member boards: the Coaching Corner board and the Exercise for Every Body board. Here, obesity expert Dr. Robert Kushner can give you feedback and suggestions on how to get better results or solve some of the problems you're experiencing.
6. A fitness plan!
To turn your body into a fat-burning machine, it's important to add some sort of regular fitness. Walking outdoors or on a treadmill, working out to a fitness DVD or video, or taking a yoga or Pilates class are all good ways to get your metabolism running at optimal speed.
Sure you'll lose weight with diet alone, but you'll lose more weight when you burn more calories working out. Did you know that muscle burns calories even when at rest? It's true, so find as little as 20-30 minutes a day to get moving and you'll speed up your slimming!
7. Come to understand that SLIP doesn't mean STOP!
No one is perfect, so you can forget about being 100% "good" on your diet. We're in this for the long haul. One meal or even one bad day or weekend won't ruin a diet. So don't use a slip as a reason to abandon your weight loss efforts.
Fall is the start of holiday season. Odds are you are going to be enticed to eat some of your favorite junk or comfort foods this Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas. Don't sweat it. Feeling deprived is a great way to doom a diet.
The truth is if you follow our 7 tips you can afford the occasional slip.
Diet.com has everything you need for successful weight loss. And we are available whenever you need support or advice, 24/7.
